Park Ridge Insider: Courtney McGeary on the delicious Nonna Silvia’s, outfit shopping at Edie, and tasty salads at Sonny’s Express
How long have you lived here?
20 years — born and raised then moved to Chicago and just recently moved back.
What you like best about Park Ridge: How far it has come in the past 34 years. The restaurant quality is comparable to what you may get downtown — food and vibe!
Best meal you’ve had recently: Nonna Silvia’s has been a go-to for my family since they opened. I got the pappardelle pasta with basil, goat cheese and mushrooms. Not only were they very accommodating to my additions, but the food is always delicious.
Favorite restaurant in the area: For a quick lunch, Sonny’s Express in Uptown. For a night out or date night, I’d say Pazzi di Pizza or Pennyville Station. Both have great food options and awesome wine and cocktail selections along with a fun atmosphere.

Favorite “hidden gem” restaurant: Sonny’s Express for the best chopped salad anywhere. Or Goldy’s Grill, a great hole-in-the-wall diner for breakfast or lunch.
Best bar to grab a drink or catch the game: Holt’s has unique drinks with fun names. One drink is named “The Fauci,” which includes lavender. So good. Also probably one of the better fried chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had!
A great night out with friends usually includes… dinner followed by drinks. Uptown is a good location with many options and outdoor seating. Fun drinks too!
The best way to spend a Saturday in the fall: Pumpkin patches! We take our daughter every year, and our go to is Bengtson’s in Homer Glen. Its only 30 miles away and always so much fun. They have everything from mega slides and train rides to a petting zoo and the best pumpkin selection.
What’s something you look forward to every fall?
Being that I have a six-year-old, I love Halloween in Park Ridge with so many kids and families running around. It takes me back to when I was her age.
Raffia is amazing for fun decor or gifts, and Edie is a good stop for a new “night out” outfit.
Favorite store or best shopping area: Raffia in Uptown is amazing for fun decor or gifts, and Edie is a good stop for a new “night out” outfit.
Secret spot: I would say Here’s Cheers Lounge on Oakton in Niles. It’s a super dive bar.
Underrated activity in the area: The Park Ridge fests in Uptown. They always have so many activities for the kids like face painting, crafts and bounce houses, and the side perk for us parents and our adult beverages!
What have you heard great things about but have yet to try?
The farmers’ market in Uptown. I’ve heard the flower selection is amazing! Also, the new Clean Juice, because the menu looks phenomenal with all kinds of healthy options.
