Sandberg Jewelers
7096 Carpenter Road in Skokie’s Village Crossing shopping center

At first glance: This is a big, bright and beautiful showroom filled with a wide selection of stunning jewelry and smiling faces. Wine and champagne are served, and it doesn’t take long to realize that many of the customers are second- and third-generation clients.

The Sandberg history: Sandberg Jewelers first opened its doors back in 1919. You read that correctly… 102 years ago. Through the vision of brothers Philip Sr. and Frank Sandberg, the store’s first location was located on Milwaukee Avenue next to the Portage Theater in Chicago.

In 1956, Philip Jr. and his wife, Saundra, moved the business to the Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago, where they continued to grow the business, raise five children and stay active in the community.

In 1997, Sandberg Jewelers entered the internet age by launching their website and, a year later, Karen and Susan, the two eldest children, took over the business. Another relocation occurred in 2002, with Village Crossing serving as the new home for Sandberg Jewelers. In 2004 Susan and her husband, Francois, became the sole owners.

Need a favorite piece fixed or something specially made for one of life’s celebrations? Sandberg offers a full repair shop on the premises that expertly handles everything from ring sizing to intricate custom designs.

The expansion: The entire store was completely updated in 2012, and regular customers could not believe their eyes when the project was finished. Built out to more than 4,000 square feet, the showroom’s selection and service grew along with the impressive new look.

Specialties: Sandberg Jewelers has had a longstanding tradition of knowledgeable and friendly service, wide selection and great prices. While they specialize in diamond jewelry, plenty of gold and platinum jewelry, colored gemstones and watches are available as well. Need a favorite piece fixed or something specially made for one of life’s celebrations? Sandberg offers a full repair shop on the premises that expertly handles everything from ring sizing to intricate custom designs.

The Sandberg way: “The Sandberg way is something that sets us apart from the big box or chain stores,” says Susan Sandberg. “We’re all about our client experience as a trusted family jeweler. People tend to stick with a good thing when they find it.”
