Oh baby: Have you seen the beautiful expanded kids section at Marigold lately?

What’s new: Marigold, known for its beautiful and ever-changing supply of colorful home decor, has recently seen its versatile baby section grow, to the point where it now takes up nearly a third of the entire store.

“It just kind of evolved,” says owner Amy DeGrazio, who also owns Edie Boutique next door. “We had the space and we had the requests coming in from our regular customers. People come here for gifts of all kinds, and after the wedding gifts, the next step is the baby gifts.”

There’s not a gift category you can’t shop for here. … The baby section will evolve with the seasons just like all of our stores. Expect something new and exciting every time you walk in the door.”  — Amy DeGrazio

“As we started expanding, people were super excited and kept following up with us to see what we were adding,” she adds. “There’s not a gift category you can’t shop for here. … The baby section will evolve with the seasons just like all of our stores. Expect something new and exciting every time you walk in the door.”

First glance: Bright and eye catching doesn’t just quite do it justice. There’s just something new and fun on every shelf, and the colorful displays are mesmerizing.

Cuddly Mon Ami stuffed animals are in ample supply, as are sweaters, onesies, pajamas, bedroom wall decor, mom totes and backpacks, toolkits, puzzles, toys, music sets, books and pillows.

What caught our eye: Fun sippy cups — for children and adults (wink, wink), as well as the cute Stephen Joseph animal bath towel sets in a variety of colors. And don’t forget the golf wall, with everything from outfits to plastic baby clubs. “Golf has taken over for football in a lot of ways when it comes to baby outfits and gifts,” Amy tells me. “Everyone loves those.”

Marigold is located at 29 S. Prospect in Park Ridge. ShopEdie.com

Wondering what’s happening to the old @thalaivasin Wondering what’s happening to the old @thalaivasindiankitchen space on Main Street? During a recent lunch, we were filled in on the plans for Mandram, which means “a place where people gather.”

Operated by the owners of the popular Thalaiva’s, we’re told to expect an assortment of small sandwiches and kati rolls (a type Indian wrap with butter chicken or chicken tikka masala inside), as well as customized fresh juices blended in front of you and milkshakes made of dried fruit and nuts.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming fall issue of The Real Park Ridge for more details about Mandram, opening in September.

The southwest chicken salad at @howardstreetinn

Keeping it light: This is not your normal sports bar menu. Far from it, actually, and it’s easy to fall in love with a new dish each time you stop by. The menu is that robust. Perfect for summer, in our mind, is the southwest chicken salad that has grilled chicken breast topped with fresh pico de gallo, corn and grated cheddar served over a bed of chopped romaine lettuce — all packed in a crispy baked tortilla shell. Throw on a little spicy ranch dressing and pair with a cold draft beer and you’re set. And pretty guilt free.

And did we mention Howard Street has arguably the best daily drink specials in the area?
