Uptown Med Spa

My history in the industry: I started saying to friends a few years ago: “I wish I could just stop practicing anesthesiology and open a med spa.” If it were not for the pandemic, I probably would still be a practicing anesthesiologist, but 2020 taught me that I needed a better work-life balance. So in 2021, I resigned from the hospital I worked at and built Uptown Med Spa. And it has been an amazing experience.

I had never considered changing specialties and starting my own practice, but building something from the ground up and becoming a part of the Park Ridge business community has been incredibly rewarding. I owe it all to my amazing clients, incredible staff and supportive family.

Many of us understand that seeking aesthetic treatments and choosing the way we age does not equal vanity. We want to look the same way we feel!

What treatments and products do you offer?
Uptown Med Spa offers individualized services that focus on natural-looking aesthetic enhancements. Our philosophy is “Choose how you age!” No one individual has the same aesthetic concerns, and we offer many different treatment options to help clients on their aging journey. From Botox and skincare to more invasive treatments like Sculptra and PRP (plasma-rich plasma injections), we can find a treatment plan that addresses both the client’s concerns and their budget.

What would you consider to be your specialties?
We offer this combined treatment of Sculptra and under-eye PRP. Sculptra is an injectable enzyme called PLLA that stimulates the production of collagen in the skin’s dermal layer, dramatically improving the skin’s elasticity and reversing the signs of aging.

PRP is plasma-rich protein that is injected into the under-eye area, resulting in brightening and tightening. Both can be done during the same treatment appointment and take about an hour, with just a couple of days of post-treatment recovery. The results are beautiful!

What do you recommend for skin spots and sun damage?
Uptown Med Spa just purchased an advanced laser from Sciton called MOXI/BBL. BBL can therapeutically and immediately make sunspots, facial capillaries and rosacea disappear. MOXI removes facial redness and lightens browns, resulting in more even-toned and brighter skin. Both can also be performed anywhere on the body, and MOXI can also be used to treat malasma.

The trends are leaning toward preventative therapy and treatments that encourage our own bodies to delay — and sometimes reverse — the aesthetic aging process.

What’s trending right now?
The aesthetics industry will be changing dramatically over the next few years. The trends are leaning toward preventative therapy and treatments that encourage our own bodies to delay — and sometimes reverse — the aesthetic aging process.

Treatments such as Sculptra, PRP, laser genesis, radio frequency and IV vitamin therapy can stimulate collagen production and improve the signs of aging from the inside out. Even starting Botox at a younger age can prevent wrinkle formation. This industry is on the brink of revolutionary rejuvenation technology, and exciting things are yet to come!

My next step is to open Park Ridge’s first full-service, walk-in IV drip bar. … With multiple relaxing lounge chairs and a comforting, quiet atmosphere, anyone can get an IV cocktail to suit your body’s needs.

Why you love what you do: I get to talk to amazing people all day long who share the same concerns I do. Many of us understand that seeking aesthetic treatments and choosing the way we age does not equal vanity. We want to look the same way we feel! It’s challenging and rewarding to help people in their journey and keeping within the philosophy of natural-looking enhancements. It’s what I want for myself, so why not try to give it to others as well?

Future plans for Uptown Med Spa
My next step is to open Park Ridge’s first full-service, walk-in IV drip bar. Feeling a little under the weather? Indulged a little too much the night before? Or just want a nice boost of energy? We will make you an IV cocktail to suit your body’s needs. With multiple relaxing lounge chairs and a comforting, quiet atmosphere, anyone can get a drip. Coming soon!!!

Wondering what’s happening to the old @thalaivasin Wondering what’s happening to the old @thalaivasindiankitchen space on Main Street? During a recent lunch, we were filled in on the plans for Mandram, which means “a place where people gather.”

Operated by the owners of the popular Thalaiva’s, we’re told to expect an assortment of small sandwiches and kati rolls (a type Indian wrap with butter chicken or chicken tikka masala inside), as well as customized fresh juices blended in front of you and milkshakes made of dried fruit and nuts.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming fall issue of The Real Park Ridge for more details about Mandram, opening in September.

The southwest chicken salad at @howardstreetinn

Keeping it light: This is not your normal sports bar menu. Far from it, actually, and it’s easy to fall in love with a new dish each time you stop by. The menu is that robust. Perfect for summer, in our mind, is the southwest chicken salad that has grilled chicken breast topped with fresh pico de gallo, corn and grated cheddar served over a bed of chopped romaine lettuce — all packed in a crispy baked tortilla shell. Throw on a little spicy ranch dressing and pair with a cold draft beer and you’re set. And pretty guilt free.

And did we mention Howard Street has arguably the best daily drink specials in the area?
