The warmer weather of spring tends to bring everyone’s thoughts to starting to plan for summer. Summer in Park Ridge, like many areas, is synonymous with the outdoors and water fun. There is no better way to spend the hot summer days than at the aquatic facilities in Park Ridge.

Summer pool passes for 2022 go on sale on April 1. To save with the early bird rate, make sure to purchase your pool pass by May 31. As an added bonus, when you purchase your pass in the month of April, your household will receive two complementary outdoor pool guest passes.

Passes can be purchased online at PRParks.org or in person at one of the customer-service desks at the Park Ridge Park District. If you have had a pool pass in the past, you do not need a new photo ID. Your physical pass from last year will work again once you renew your membership. However, if you are purchasing a new pool pass or have misplaced your old ID, you will need to come into one of the Park District customer-service desks to take a photo and have a new pass printed.

Summer pool passes for 2022 go on sale on April 1. To save with the early bird rate, make sure to purchase your pool pass by May 31.

Summer pool passes are valid for entry at all Park Ridge Park District outdoor aquatic facilities, including the Centennial Aquatic Center, Hinkley Pool, South Park Wading Pool and Prospect Park Splash Pad. Weather permitting, the Centennial Aquatic Center, South Park Wading Pool and Prospect Park Splash Pad will open on Saturday, May 28 this year. Hinkley Pool will open on Saturday, June 4.

A private pool rental is also a great way to celebrate a special occasion this summer. Registration for private rentals opens on April 4 for residents and April 8 for non-residents. All private rentals can be made online at PRParks.org.

You can also celebrate with a birthday party at the Centennial Aquatic Center. Parties are available seven days a week; reserved between 1-7 p.m. during open-swim hours. The birthday party package includes the patio area reserved for your party for 1.5 hours and food choice provided by Harp & Fiddle, the concessionaire at the Centennial Aquatic Center.

If you have any questions about private rentals or birthday parties at the outdoor aquatic facilities, please contact Jenna Jezek at jj****@*****ks.org or 847-292-8921.

For more information about the outdoor aquatic facilities, visit PRParks.org

Wondering what’s happening to the old @thalaivasin Wondering what’s happening to the old @thalaivasindiankitchen space on Main Street? During a recent lunch, we were filled in on the plans for Mandram, which means “a place where people gather.”

Operated by the owners of the popular Thalaiva’s, we’re told to expect an assortment of small sandwiches and kati rolls (a type Indian wrap with butter chicken or chicken tikka masala inside), as well as customized fresh juices blended in front of you and milkshakes made of dried fruit and nuts.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming fall issue of The Real Park Ridge for more details about Mandram, opening in September.

The southwest chicken salad at @howardstreetinn

Keeping it light: This is not your normal sports bar menu. Far from it, actually, and it’s easy to fall in love with a new dish each time you stop by. The menu is that robust. Perfect for summer, in our mind, is the southwest chicken salad that has grilled chicken breast topped with fresh pico de gallo, corn and grated cheddar served over a bed of chopped romaine lettuce — all packed in a crispy baked tortilla shell. Throw on a little spicy ranch dressing and pair with a cold draft beer and you’re set. And pretty guilt free.

And did we mention Howard Street has arguably the best daily drink specials in the area?
