Skiing, waterpark, fireplaces and more at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa

Looking for a quick and easy getaway, loaded with activities for the kiddos like sledding, an arcade and indoor water park? Or maybe you’ve been wanting to get the little ones some experience on skis, and do so on family-friendly hills that have designated areas for those looking to learn?

Well, situated on 1,300 acres in the woodlands of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, just over an hour from Park Ridge, the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa has plenty of package deals to help make just such a family excursion a reality.

Skiing, snowboarding, sledding and ice skating are all available, and dining in one of the resort’s heated igloos is a unique experience (advance reservations are definitely recommended). Don’t forget the heated pool, hot tubs, cozy fireplaces and award-winning restaurants to warm you up.

And let’s not forget the package deals they offer, like when you stay the night Sunday-Thursday starting Jan. 2 and receive two free lift tickets for one day of skiing or snowboarding and a 15-percent discount toward a spa visit.

At the Timber Ridge Lodge and Waterpark, a popular option is the splash-and-ski package (valid Dec 12-March 13, weather permitting), offering two mini vacations in one essentially, including overnight suite accommodations, four waterpark passes, four lift tickets and 50 percent off ski rentals for children 11 and younger.

Grand Geneva Resort is located 7036 Grand Geneva Way in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Check out package deals and specials at GrandGeneva.com and TimberRidgeLodge.com

Altitude Trampoline Park

We know how difficult it can be when the kids need to burn off some energy for a few hours and it’s 18 degrees outside. Our neighbors turned us on to Altitude last winter, and we enjoyed it so much we held our son’s birthday party there in May and have become regulars to a degree, especially during the winter months.

Featuring 35,000 square feet of indoor trampolines and other attractions, Altitude Trampoline Park is an exciting destination for families, groups and individual jumpers to have some healthy, athletic fun — and reach for the rafters. Super trampolines, trampoline basketball, battle beams where you can challenge friends or family to a gladiator-style dual, rock walls, trapeze swings, foam pits, gymnastic tumble tracks, monkey bars, extreme dodgeball and more. It’s all here.

The Skokie location for Altitude Trampoline Park is located at 7037 Central Avenue, Suite 11. AltitudeTrampolinePark.com

The southwest chicken salad at @howardstreetinn

Keeping it light: This is not your normal sports bar menu. Far from it, actually, and it’s easy to fall in love with a new dish each time you stop by. The menu is that robust. Perfect for summer, in our mind, is the southwest chicken salad that has grilled chicken breast topped with fresh pico de gallo, corn and grated cheddar served over a bed of chopped romaine lettuce — all packed in a crispy baked tortilla shell. Throw on a little spicy ranch dressing and pair with a cold draft beer and you’re set. And pretty guilt free.

And did we mention Howard Street has arguably the best daily drink specials in the area?
